Mother Nature's humor.

Last week we had so much rain it caused flooding, mud slides, downed trees and major power failures, not to mention our boil water advisory ( which by the way was lifted today, but the water is still brown so I do not feel comfortable drinking it yet ). This week we had so much snow that we had major black outs ( again ), downed trees ( again ), and so many traffic problems that most of the city was closed today. Luckey Hike got the day off because his job is outdoors and there was way too much snow for him to work. When he showed up his boss sent him home again, I guess that counts as a 3 day week end for him!
On my walk to work today I brought my camera with me and snapped a few photos which I will post once they are developed. I am a bit worried though that once the snow melts we may end up with more mud slides that will cause the turbidity levels in the water to rise again and then we'll be dealing with another boil water advisory. Cross your fingers for us that that is not the case!
Oh yeah, and Frank went to see his Doctor and ended up with a prescription of antibiotics. He is fast on his way to recovering thankfully.

First snow fall!!!

We had ( and are still having ) our first snowfall of the season. We really don't get much snow here in Vancouver so I was pretty excited to see the that big fluffy flakes were sticking. They snow will likely all have melted by tomorrow, but right now its really nice.
It was brought to my attention that not everyone knows what I do for work. I pretty much run the office at a cloth diaper service that services most of the Lower Mainland. I set up accounts, teach people how to effectively use cloth diapers, take lots of calls from expectant and new Moms/Dads, and I love my job. Each customer gets delivered clean diapers once a week, and when we drop off the clean ones we pick up the dirty ones at the same time. I have an amazing boss, he is very easy to work with and for. He comes in for a few hours almost every day to do some computer work and he is always available to work if anyone has a Dr's appointment or can't make it in. Of all the jobs I have held in my life, this one is the most rewarding for me and I can honestly say that I do love my job ( most days anyway! ).

Today was a much better day!

Thankfully today was a much nicer day, so nice in fact that when I looked out my office window, I saw a rainbow. It was pretty bright which was nice considering its been raining here for the past 3 weeks.
We are still being told to boil our water, no word yet on the e-coli verdict so we have absolutely no idea how much longer this ordeal will last. The sooner its over the better. Ohh...Hike just told me that the second e-coli test came back positive, and they are testing it yet a third time to reconfirm the confirmation. No water for a while it looks like.
I am off to do a bit of shopping tonight, a new light for the aquarium, some stocking stuffers for Hike and Frank, maybe a new top or two for me...we'll see what I can find *S*.
Anyway, I hope everyone is doing well and not taking their fresh tap water for granted! You know, I never bought bottled water very often before this, but it sure is expensive. I was talking to a client today and she was complaining about the price of gas, and when I mentioned that 1 litre of water costs more than one litre of gas, she was shocked at the truth of it. She said she always buys water and never really thought about the price in comparison to gas...food for thought I guess...or maybe liquid for thought!

Correction...

I really was trying to get on here, but for some reason in the last post I typed that I was NOT trying to. See, this bad day is not getting any better ( que Danial Powders song had a bad day....)

I don't get it...

I just don't get it. I have been trying for 2 days not to get back on here to update the Blog, and it would not let me log in. I tried so many different things, different names and passwords and combinations, but I am POSITIVE I was using the right combination ( After all, I did write it down and leave it on the computer desk right in front of me) but no luck. And for some reason, just as I was about to delete the Blog and give up...here I am, logged in and typing. Hummm... I do not always like electronic communication.
Anyway, an update. Its been a rotten day for me. We are still being told to boil all tap water, and the new twist is that there is a possible e-coli contamination. The latest report is that it may be a false alarm, but they are not sure yet.
Frank is sick with some sort of virus, he sees the Dr tomorrow about it because its been a week now and he still gets fevers and chills to go with the sore throat and achy body. And it was a rotten day at work as well, who knew that the world of diapers could be so hostile? Well, based on the volume of calls I got today I am positive I am not the only one in the Lower Mainland to be having an off day! I think the water problem is effecting us all in more ways than we thought it would.

H2O is worse!

We are still being told to boil our H2O before we drink it, but you know, I just can't bring myself to even brush my teeth with it even though they say that is ok. I have boiled some tap water to wash the dishes in, but everything else is done with bottled water. Better safe than sorry!
Not much is new and exciting for me. I am almost dome my Christmas shopping. All I have left is a gift for Mom and a "Big gift" for Zach and Na to go with all the little ones I have gotten them, but I'll pick them up when I am in Toronto for Christmas. It is going to be so nice to have a white Christmas again!
Anyway, the pizza will be here any min now so I had better go find some cash for the delivery person.
Night!

Attempt # 3 at adding pohtos...

This is Zach, Na and FeFe, the shot was taken during my vacation home this past summer.

This is a pic of Frank, it was taken last spring when we played hookie from work. It was my brithday and we headed up to Whistler and stopped along the way to hike up to a waterfall. What a great day it was!

Lets get started...

I have been browsing the family blogs for a while now ( Life at the Becks, Lil Salmon house & Posh news from the Valley) and never figured I'd ever have much to fill one up but enjoyed the reading. I started my sister Alli on a blog as well but being the busy mom of a 6 year old, a 3 year old and a 4 month old she doesn't always have time to update. My boyfriend/bestfriend suggested I start one anyway and just see where it goes...so here goes!
Not a lot is happening this week end, Burnaby has been under a "Boil Water" advisory since Thursday and these days bottled water is really liquid gold! Luckey for Hike and I we had a case of water stashed away for just such an emergency and also managed ( with Franks help ) to grab a few extra cases of H2O before every store in the lowed mainland totally sold out. The water comming from out taps and filling the toilet bowls looks and smells like pond water so I would not be surprised to see a fish swimming around in there soon. It is so bad that if you fill a glass with tap water and let it sit for an hour, you can see all the dirt collecting at the bottom of the glass, YUCK!
I hope everyone is going well, I am not sure how often I will update this thing, but it would have been nice if I started it back in October when I was busier. I could have told about my quilting classes, the adventure Hike, Frank, Sara and I went on to a corn maze in the dark armed only with flashlights when we were "attacked" by a Gorilla who seemed to be stocking me, Hikes Halloween party etc. Who knows, maybe things will be more exciting next week!
